West Vancouver-Sea to Sky, meet your advocate: Community leader Jen Ford nominated by BC NDP to take action on what matters to people
Jen Ford is ready to take action for people on housing, affordability, education, and health care as the newly nominated BC NDP candidate for West Vancouver-Sea to Sky.
A municipal councillor for the Resort Municipality of Whistler since 2014, Jen Ford is also the board chair of the Squamish-Lillooet Regional District and the Past-President of the Union of BC Municipalities. She is passionate about affordable housing, community building, primary care for an aging population, and accessible childcare. She lives in Whistler with her son, Ollie.
“As a local government leader in BC, I know the difference good governance can make for communities and the people who live in them,” said Ford. “Since 2017, our BC NDP team has been taking action for people and families all around the province; investing in housing people can afford, improving healthcare, increasing spaces for students and creating affordable childcare spaces — and there’s more to do. People can’t afford the reckless cuts John Rustad’s Conservative Party would bring.”
Since forming government in July 2017, the BC NDP has taken action on crucial issues that matter to the people of West Vancouver-Sea to Sky, including:
- Strengthening healthcare by building and expanding hospitals in Vancouver, Richmond, Burnaby and Surrey;
- Hiring new doctors and nurses, plus licensing internationally-trained health professionals to work in BC;
- Tackling housing costs by taking on speculators, updating zoning rules to allow for more townhouses, duplexes and triplexes, and making it easier for cities to build more homes near transit;
- Putting money back in your pocket by eliminating MSP premiums, lowering ICBC rates by $500 a year and boosting the BC Family Benefit by $445; and
- Working with the Green Party to develop CleanBC, the most ambitious climate plan in North America, and taking action to electrify the economy, create green jobs, and more opportunities for BC businesses.
"Jen Ford’s deep understanding of local issues, combined with her proven leadership and commitment to community service, would make her an outstanding MLA for West Vancouver-Sea to Sky,” said Premier David Eby. “I know she will be a strong voice for these communities, helping ensure people can find housing and connect to the services they need to build a life here.”
Jen Ford will join David Eby and 91 other exceptional BC NDP candidates in this fall’s provincial election, all committed to real action to help people build a good life here in BC.
