Taking action for you in Cariboo-Chilcotin: BC NDP nominates Williams Lake city councillor Michael Moses to stand up for housing, healthcare and more
With a focus on results for locals, housing advocate and Williams Lake city councillor Michael Moses has officially accepted the nomination as the BC NDP candidate for Cariboo-Chilcotin.
A resident of the Cariboo-Chilcotin for more than thirty years, Michael Moses is dedicated to making his community a better place for people to live and thrive. An elected city councillor in Williams Lake since 2022 and a member of the Lower Nicola Indian Band, Moses is also a graduate of Simon Fraser University’s Beedie School of Business in digital innovation and leadership.
"Housing, healthcare and affordability are big issues everywhere, and people in Cariboo-Chilcotin are feeling the pressure,” said Michael Moses. “Our BC NDP team is looking out for all of our people and families — lowering costs, improving health care, and building homes people can afford — and there’s much more to do. We are also moving reconciliation forward in leaps and bounds with UNDRIP and treaties, while John Rustad and his Conservative party threaten to remove UNDRIP and have voted against title recognition. These are all reasons I’m passionate about fighting for what matters in our communities so that all people can build a solid life for themselves and their families to thrive here."
Since forming government in July 2017, the BC NDP has taken action on crucial issues that matter to the people of Cariboo-Chilcotin, including:
- Putting people ahead of speculators and investors by bringing in tough new restrictions on short-term rentals and a speculation tax, plus simplified approvals that make it easier and faster to get 300,000 new homes built.
- Helping you and your family get the care you need by hiring 700 new family doctors and building or upgrading hospitals in dozens of BC communities, including a new urgent and primary care clinic in Quesnel, a new intensive care and emergency department at G.R Baker Memorial Hospital and redeveloping Cariboo Memorial hospital.
- Put money back in your pocket by eliminating MSP premiums, lowering ICBC rates by $500 a year and boosting the BC Family Benefit by $445.
- Took action to create 75,000 good paying jobs in the last year to make BC an economic leader in Canada, with the highest wages in the country.
“Michael Moses has deep roots in Cariboo-Chilcotin and understands what will make life better for people who live in this community,” said Premier David Eby. “People here deserve a champion like Michael who is on their side — building housing, improving healthcare and lowering costs. Michael will defend people against the reckless cuts to hospitals and schools that we’ve seen before and John Rustad and his Conservative Party are planning again.”
Michael Moses will join David Eby and 91 other exceptional BC NDP candidates in this fall’s provincial election, all committed to real action to help people build a good life here in BC.
