Sarah Kooner nominated by BC NDP in Abbotsford South to stand up for housing, healthcare and affordability
Sarah Kooner, an Infant Development professional and a lifelong resident of Abbotsford, has been nominated by the BC NDP in Abbotsford South.
For nearly a decade, Sarah Kooner has served her community at the Fraser Valley Child Development Centre, where she works with children under the age of five, and their families, to help them live healthy and fulfilling lives. She also serves on the Board of Directors of the Health Sciences Association, where she advocates for better workplace conditions for healthcare professionals. Families in Abbotsford South can count on her to fight for the healthcare they need, when they need it.
“More than anything else, our healthcare system needs investment: in building hospitals, in hiring workers, and in training doctors and nurses,” said Kooner. “John Rustad and the BC Conservatives have promised to cut $4.1 billion from our healthcare system. We need to strengthen our healthcare system, and can’t afford the risk of Rustad’s cuts.”
Since forming government in July 2017, the BC NDP has taken action on crucial issues that matter to the people of Abbotsford South, including:
- Connecting people to produce grown in British Columbia by relaunching Buy BC, and expanding the program to include Grow BC and Feed BC;
- Putting people ahead of speculators and investors by bringing in tough new restrictions on short-term rentals and a speculation tax, plus simplified approvals that make it easier and faster to get 300,000 new homes built;
- Connecting people to the care they need by hiring 700 more family doctors, licensing internationally-educated healthcare workers in BC and building a new medical school at SFU Surrey to train even more doctors; and
- Putting money back in your pocket by eliminating MSP premiums, lowering ICBC rates by $500 a year and boosting the BC Family Benefit by $445.
“Sarah has spent her career helping children grow up happy and healthy. She understands how critical supports and services can help families build a good life,” said Premier David Eby. “The people of Abbotsford South can count on her, and our whole BC NDP team, to help people get the care they need, when they need it.”
Sarah Kooner will join David Eby and 91 other exceptional BC NDP candidates in this fall’s provincial election, all committed to real action to help people build a good life here in BC.
