Rustad leaves the door open to investigating Dr. Bonnie Henry

When asked this morning to clarify his receptiveness to a trial for decisions made during the pandemic, Rustad left the door open to investigating public health officials.

Rustad was asked if he stood by the idea that there needs to be a “COVID-19 reckoning.” Rustad didn’t reject the idea, and offered that: “when we go forward, when we look at things, if there's issues that come up, certainly we'll look at it.”

Firing Dr. Bonnie Henry is a longstanding commitment of Rustad’s. He is also running candidates who want to see her jailed and sued.

Chris Sankey in North Coast-Haida Gwaii has said, “Bonny Henry & Theresa Tam should be at the top of everyone's list of people to sue until everything is taken from them.”

Paul Ratchford in Vancouver-Point Grey has said, “Dr. Henry and Adrian Dix are tyrants who should face a criminal inquiry” and "at this point even if there isn't a legal case to put her behind bars there is a strong moral one."

Wolf Depner (Black Press): Yeah. Hi, thank you for taking my question, John. I want to go back to the press progress report. Do you still think that BC needs to participate in these investigations if you will, if other jurisdictions go along with it? In other words, do you agree, I mean, do you still stand by that statement that there might, that there needs to be a sort of a quote unquote, my word, COVID-19 reckoning?

John Rustad: So I think that, you know, right now in British Columbia, we have so many issues to address. People are dying in our streets from drugs. People are dying in our streets from crime. We have a huge affordability problem. We have a housing crisis in British Columbia. Our economy is in shambles. Our deficit is in shambles. There is so much that we need to be doing, and that is what we're going to be focused on. David Eby wants to distract from that in the things that he's doing and that's find. When it comes to things like health and health related, we've been very clear in our health platform and how we're going to address things associated with health in this province and how we're going to make sure that we put patients first in everything that we do associated with health care in British Columbia. So when we go forward, when we look at things, if there's issues that come up, certainly we'll look at it, but our focus is going to be on making sure that patients are receiving the services they need and that they can have confidence in our health care systems providing them with those services that are needed in British Columbia.
