Randene Neill, a community champion who gets results for people, nominated as BC NDP candidate for Powell River-Sunshine Coast
Following a nomination meeting, Randene Neill will carry the BC NDP banner in Powell River-Sunshine Coast, pledging to put people’s needs ahead of powerful interests.
An award-winning journalist at GlobalBC for nearly two decades, Randene Neill lives with her family in the community of kalpilin/Pender Harbour on the Sunshine Coast. She is devoted to helping her community, volunteering currently with the Pender Harbour Living Heritage Society, and previously with Turning Point Recovery Society, and the BC Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
“Housing costs are expensive across Canada, around the world, and here at home in Powell River and the Sunshine Coast. It’s why people living here need a government on their side looking out for them,” said Neill. “David Eby’s BC NDP team is taking real action to build more affordable housing, fight global inflation and rising interest rates, and deliver better health care sooner. I’m so proud to be running with this team.”
Since forming government in July 2017, the BC NDP has taken action on crucial issues that matter to the people of Powell River-Sunshine Coast, including:
- Putting people ahead of speculators and investors by bringing in tough new restrictions on short-term rentals and a speculation tax, plus simplified approvals that make it easier and faster to get 300,000 new homes built;
- Connecting people to the care they need by hiring 700 more family doctors, licensing internationally-educated healthcare workers in BC and building a new medical school at SFU Surrey to train even more doctors;
- Putting money back in your pocket by eliminating MSP premiums, lowering ICBC rates by $500 a year and boosting the BC Family Benefit by $445; and
- Working with the Green Party to develop CleanBC, the most ambitious climate plan in North America, and taking action to electrify the economy, create green jobs, and more opportunities for BC businesses.
- “Randene has already demonstrated remarkable service to this province and understands the challenges faced by people right now,” said Premier David Eby. “She will be a powerful advocate for everyone in Powell River-Sunshine Coast.”
Randene Neill will join David Eby and 91 other exceptional BC NDP candidates in this fall’s provincial election, all committed to real action to help people build a good life here in BC.
