Ladysmith-Oceanside gains a powerful advocate as Stephanie Higginson joins the BC NDP team, pledging to prioritize what matters to you and your family

Stephanie Higginson, a community champion focused on making life more affordable for people, was nominated today as the BC NDP candidate in Ladysmith-Oceanside.

Twice-elected to the Nanaimo-Ladysmith Board of Education, Higginson is also a past president of the BC School Trustees’ Association. She and her family have lived in the Ladysmith-Oceanside area since 2010, where she and her husband raise their two children on a small farm in Cedar. She knows that families in BC need strong public services, and a government that’s dedicated to making life easier.
“Our province is strong when our public services are strong. I lived through the deep cuts that Falcon and Rustad made to education and healthcare. We can’t let them do it again,” said Higginson. “Our BC NDP team is on your side, delivering strong public services, good jobs, and a strong and clean economy. I can’t wait to get to work alongside Premier Eby to tackle our Province’s challenges."

Since forming government in July 2017, the BC NDP has taken action on crucial issues that matter to the people of Ladysmith-Oceanside, including:

  • Putting people ahead of speculators and investors by bringing in tough new restrictions on short-term rentals and a speculation tax, plus simplified approvals that make it easier and faster to get 300,000 new homes built;
  • Connecting people to the care they need by hiring 700 more family doctors, licensing internationally-educated healthcare workers in BC and building a new medical school at SFU Surrey to train even more doctors;
  • Putting money back in your pocket by eliminating MSP premiums, lowering ICBC rates by $500 a year and boosting the BC Family Benefit by $445; and
  • Working with the Green Party to develop CleanBC, the most ambitious climate plan in North America, and taking action to electrify the economy, create green jobs, and more opportunities for BC businesses.

“Stephanie has a keen understanding of the critical role schools play in the lives of parents and kids across the Province,” said Premier David Eby. “People in Ladysmith-Oceanside will be well-served by her commitment to helping them build good lives in the community they love, and her support of strong and effective public services. I’m excited she’s joining our team.”
Stephanie Higginson will join David Eby and 91 other exceptional BC NDP candidates in this fall’s provincial election, all committed to real action to help people build a good life here in BC.
