Healthcare worker and advocate Sara Eftekhar nominated as BC NDP candidate in West Vancouver-Capilano

Healthcare worker and healthcare equity advocate Sara Eftekhar has been nominated as the BC NDP candidate in West Vancouver-Capilano, committing to take action to help people build good lives in British Columbia.

Sara Eftekar was born in Iran, but left with her family to find safety and freedom when she was eight years old. She found it, on the North Shore, and has lived there ever since. As an active volunteer from a young age, and as nurse practitioner, she has seen the challenges faced by her community firsthand. For years, she has worked to make her community stronger, playing a crucial role in establishing forensic nursing services at Lions Gate Hospital, advocating for free prescription contraception, and developing the North Shore's first gender-based violence projects. She is committed to delivering quality healthcare, improving safety for women and gender-diverse people, and ensuring every resident has a voice and strong advocate in the legislature.

“People in West Vancouver-Capilano need a government that will invest in our healthcare system. But what we'll get with Falcon and Rustad is risky and reckless cuts,” said Eftekhar. “The BC NDP has taken action on healthcare, and on housing and affordability, in our community and across the province. We are in your corner.”

Since forming government in July 2017, the BC NDP has taken action on crucial issues that matter to the people of West Vancouver-Capilano, including:

  • Helping you and your family get the care you need by hiring 700 new family doctors and building or upgrading hospitals across BC;
  • Putting people ahead of speculators and investors by bringing in tough new restrictions on short-term rentals and a speculation tax, plus simplified approvals that make it easier and faster to get 300,000 new homes built;
  • Helping people with costs by eliminating MSP Premiums, reducing ICBC rates by $500 a year, boosting the BC Family Benefit by $445, cutting childcare fees in half, and making birth control free; and
  • Taking action to create 75,000 good paying jobs in the last year to make BC an economic leader in Canada, with the highest wages in the country.

"As a nurse practitioner, as a volunteer in her community, and as an advocate for better healthcare for women, Sara has been taking action for people her entire career," said Premier David Eby. "West Vancouver-Capilano needs an effective and empathetic voice in the BC Legislature. That's Sara Eftekhar."

Sara Eftekhar will join David Eby and 91 other exceptional BC NDP candidates in this fall’s provincial election, all committed to real action to help people build a good life here in BC.
