Health Minister Adrian Dix to run with BC NDP in Vancouver-Renfrew

Health minister Adrian Dix will run again with the BC NDP in Vancouver-Renfrew.

First elected as the MLA for Vancouver-Kingsway in 2005, Adrian Dix has been a fierce advocate for his constituents and their concerns, forcing through needed change in areas ranging from children in care, seniors, fairness for workers and the protection of public healthcare. He has served as Minister of Health since July 2017. As Minister, he helped lead BC’s response to the COVID-19, and has taken action to strengthen our system following the strains of the pandemic.

“We’ve taken action to strengthen our healthcare system and ensure people can get the care they need: hiring family doctors, building new hospitals and breaking ground on the first new medical school in Western Canada in half a century. Thanks to all this work, we’re starting to turn the corner,” said Dix. “When Rustad and Falcon were both in government, they said no to new hospitals and new medical schools. We chose differently. With the BC NDP, you’ll get a government that will invest. With Rustad and the Conservatives, you’ll get cuts and privatization.”

Since forming government in July 2017, the BC NDP has taken action on crucial issues that matter to the people of Vancouver-Renfrew, including:

  • Helping BC’s renters find — and keep — their homes by limiting rent increases, providing a renter’s rebate, and bringing tens of thousands of rental units back to market through the speculation tax and tough new restrictions on short-term rentals;
  • Helping people get care when they need it by building and upgrading hospitals in Vancouver, Burnaby, Surrey and Richmond;
  • Helping people with costs by eliminating MSP Premiums, reducing ICBC rates by $500 a year, boosting the BC Family Benefit by $445, cutting childcare fees in half, and making birth control free; and
  • Working with the Green Party to develop CleanBC, the most ambitious climate plan in North America, and taking action to electrify the economy, create green jobs, and more opportunities for BC businesses.

“I have worked with Adrian in cabinet for years. He is single-minded in his determination to protect and strengthen our healthcare system. Public healthcare in BC has no greater champion,” said Premier David Eby. “Adrian’s work hiring doctors and investing in our healthcare infrastructure has us turning the corner in BC. We can’t afford the risk of cuts or privatization that would come with John Rustad.”

Adrian Dix will join David Eby and 91 other exceptional BC NDP candidates in this fall’s provincial election, all committed to real action to help people build a good life here in BC.
