Christy Clark’s neglect of public education hurting Quesnel students
QUESNEL—Christy Clark’s neglect of public education is hurting Quesnel students and leaves kids struggling in our schools, says BC NDP Leader John Horgan.
“Here in Quesnel we see the impact of 16 years of Christy Clark’s neglect: school closures, unstable funding and stress for students and families. And British Columbians don’t believe Christy Clark when she makes election-time promises,” said Horgan at a campaign stop in Quesnel.
“Christy Clark’s choices robbed a generation of kids of the public education they deserved. Families in Quesnel can’t afford four more years of neglect to their schools, and uncertainty for their kids.”
For 16 years, Christy Clark and the BC Liberals have shortchanged students with overcrowded classrooms and less attention for special needs students. Chronic underfunding has left many districts with no option but to close community schools.
In 2016, three schools in Quesnel were on the chopping block – Parkland, Ecole Baker and Kersley Elementary. The community fought hard to keep their schools open, and their pressure saved two of the three schools. But the future of these schools remains uncertain, as the BC Liberals have only provided one-time funding, announced on the eve of an election.
“It’s time to make a better choice for a better BC, by electing an NDP government that believes in public education,” said Horgan.
