Central Saanich Councillor Sarah Riddell will represent the BC NDP in Saanich North and the Islands.

Elected to Central Saanich Council in 2022, Sarah Riddell has a record of taking action on the issues people care about: housing, healthcare and the cost of living. A champion for housing and the climate, her deep roots on the Saanich Peninsula, where she and her spouse are raising their two children, inspire her to act every day to make life better for the people of her community.

“Families in Saanich North and the Islands need a government that will act to take on today’s big challenges, from housing to healthcare to growing a sustainable economy,” said Riddell. “David Eby’s BC NDP has a record of action on these issues. John Rustad and Kevin Falcon have a record of cuts. We need to keep our progress going.”

Since forming government in July 2017, the BC NDP has taken action on crucial issues that matter to the people of Saanich North and the Islands, including:

• Putting people ahead of speculators and investors by bringing in tough new restrictions on short-term rentals and a speculation tax, plus simplified approvals that make it easier and faster to get 300,000 new homes built;
• Helping people get care when they need it by building and upgrading hospitals in communities across BC;
• Helping people with costs by eliminating MSP Premiums, reducing ICBC rates by $500 a year, boosting the BC Family Benefit by $445, cutting childcare fees in half, and making birth control free; and
• Working with the Green Party to develop CleanBC, the most ambitious climate plan in North America, and taking action to electrify the economy, create green jobs, and more opportunities for BC businesses.
