BC NDP nominates Korean-Canadian lawyer and community activist Paul Choi in Burnaby South-Metrotown

Surrounded by friends, family and supporters from across the region, Paul Choi officially kicked off his run for provincial office as the BC NDP candidate in Burnaby South-Metrotown.

Born into a family that ran a small grocery store, Paul Choi understands the challenges faced by everyday people firsthand. He has been taking action for regular folks his entire life, having worked as a volunteer, activist, first responder and lawyer. A leading member of his community, sitting as President of the Burnaby North Road BIA and serving on the Board of Governors at Kwantlen Polytechnic University, he hopes to continue that record of action as part of David Eby’s BC NDP team.
“Growing up in a working-class family, we relied on strong public services. But we know that Falcon and Rustad would just deliver reckless and risky cuts,” said Choi. “For my family, and every family like us, we need a government that is on our side, taking action to make life easier. That’s David Eby and the NDP.”

Since forming government in July 2017, the BC NDP has taken action on crucial issues that matter to the people of Burnaby South-Metrotown, including:

  • Strengthening healthcare by building and expanding hospitals in Surrey, Vancouver, Burnaby and Richmond;
  • Hiring new doctors and nurses, and licensing internationally-trained health professionals to work in BC;
  • Tackling housing prices by taking on real estate speculators and building more homes for people; and
  • Creating thousands of affordable childcare spaces.

“Paul is an outstanding candidate. From his humble roots to his present positions of community leadership, he has never stopped putting regular people at the centre of his work,” said Premier David Eby. “People in Burnaby South-Metrotown can count on him, and our whole BC NDP team, to be on their side.”

Paul Choi will join David Eby and 91 other exceptional BC NDP candidates in this fall’s provincial election, all committed to real action to help people build a good life here in BC.
