BC NDP champions environmental advocate and MLA Kelly Greene in Richmond-Steveston, promising real results for families

Focused on delivering progress for families, Kelly Greene has officially accepted the nomination as the BC NDP candidate for Richmond-Steveston in this fall’s election.

An MLA and former Richmond City Councillor, Kelly Greene has deep roots in Richmond and Steveston, where she’s worked extensively to preserve farmland and protect the local environment. An active community advocate, Greene also co-founded an advocacy group that successfully lobbied to keep Richmond public schools open, funded, and seismically safe.

“People in Richmond are dealing with difficult issues which go back to the years when John Rustad, Kevin Falcon and the former government cut health care and schools and allowed rampant housing speculation,” said Greene. “David Eby and I are taking action to lower costs, for better health care and homes people can afford. We can’t have Rustad’s Conservative party jeopardise your right to choose, increase car insurance and eliminate the measures we put in place to create more homes for people.”

Since forming government in July 2017, the BC NDP has taken action on crucial issues that matter to the people of Richmond-Steveston, including:

  • Strengthening healthcare by building and expanding hospitals in Richmond, Surrey, Burnaby and Vancouver;
  • Hiring new doctors and nurses, plus licensing internationally-trained health professionals to work in BC;
  • Tackling housing costs by taking on speculators, updating zoning rules to allow for more townhouses, duplexes and triplexes, and making it easier for cities to build more homes near transit;
  • Connecting communities across the province with new infrastructure, including the Surrey-Langley Skytrain, Patullo bridge replacement and Massey crossing — while keeping tolls off bridges; and
  • Keeping kids safe by taking phones out of classrooms and building new schools.

“Kelly has been a tireless advocate for the people of Richmond,” said Premier David Eby. “She’s focused on taking action to make Richmond a place where people can build their home, save for the future, and access the schools and health care they need to live a good life here.”

Kelly Greene will join David Eby and 91 other exceptional BC NDP candidates in this fall’s provincial election, all committed to real action to help people build a good life here in BC
