Foot Canvasser

The BC NDP is seeking enthusiastic foot canvassers (poll cats) to connect with voters for the upcoming provincial election. This is a great position for a person who’s interested in progressive politics and campaigns — and a great opportunity to be a part of the winning team at the BC NDP.

In this job you will be contacting past BC NDP supporters and previously uncontacted voters at their homes through door-to-door canvassing in various communities and asking them to vote for the BC NDP in the upcoming election. You will also engage with potential volunteers.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct voter contact conversations, following a script
  • Provide information about the BC NDP to voters
  • Follow a walk route and visit addresses on a list
  • Real-time data entry
  • Adhere to a strict daily reporting schedule

You are good at (Required Qualifications)

  • Quickly building rapport with people you don’t know in face-to-face settings, with strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to successfully relate to voters and volunteers from a wide range of backgrounds
  • Verbally communicating in English
  • Keeping track of details and making accurate records
  • Routine data entry
  • Maintaining professionalism in a fast-paced role
  • Managing your time effectively
  • Being thoughtful, respectful, and assertive in verbal communication
  • Working independently and in team settings

Assets

  • Familiarity with mobile canvass apps
  • Access to a personal smartphone or tablet
  • Experience with voter contact and/or door-to-door solicitation
  • Knowledge of current political events in British Columbia
  • Ability to speak Mandarin, Cantonese and/or Panjabi

Terms & Conditions

This is a temporary, casual position based out of multiple locations in the lower mainland, from August through October 19, 2024.

Access to reliable transportation is required.

Compensation is per the CUPE 3787 Collective Agreement with a starting wage of $25.67/hour.

Shifts are available 4pm to 9pm Monday to Friday, and 12pm to 5pm on the weekend, unless otherwise specified. Canvassers must be available evenings and weekends and be able to commit to a minimum of three five-hour foot canvass shifts a week.
